Hi there, I'm Bruce, the founder of Titan Reptile Rescue. My goal here is simple, to spread the word in the latest in reptile husbandry and giving you an insight into my day to day life. The final goal is to open up my own rescue and wildlife park. But you have to start somewhere, and I am currently working in a rescue centre.
My love for reptiles started when I was 16, when I bought my first corn snake. Since then I have been the proud owner of 2 bearded dragons, 2 ackie monitors, a black and white tegu, all the way to my present 3, Thor, a Zebra Jungle Carpet Python, Titan, a Black and White Tegu and Arnie, an Ackie Monitor. At the start of my journey there were no reptile rescue centres and the only way you could get your hands on them were from shops or online sellers. But with so many being breed and discarded there is a huge need for rescue centres. I currently work in one and know the struggle we have to house the influx of animals that get brought in. This is actually how I got Titan and Arnie, Titan being the most demanding. Being a Monitor he is very intelligent and was bought in due to his independent nature. He used to run his household, so training was in order to get him to be less aggressive. Putting that time in has help so much, he is now a very beautiful boy, though he has his moments and does get a few bites in now and then.
Sadly as the popularity increased in the reptile trade so did breeders. Breeders have actually added to the ever growing problem that I see today. With a high influx of Pythons being brought in on a daily basis. It is relatively easy to breed from snakes and it is this over breeding that is causing the problem. The second biggest problem is knowledge. A lot of the large snakes and lizards that come in are due to their size, where the owner had them as a hatchling and didn't realise how big they would get. This is where my page is going to be starting off, I want to provide the latest information and care sheets for reptiles. I have seen far too many reptiles suffering, due to lack of information, and just like any other animal the legislation and guidelines have changed over the years. With new information and studies being undertake more is becoming known for reptile needs, and it is my mission to improve the quality of life for these animals.
Along with myself, my partner also has a huge love for animals. She herself has many qualifications in the veterinary field, and with her input, I want to provide you with the most up to date information on these beautiful creatures.
